| Spore to use latest SecuROM protection |  |
| A few days ago it was announced that Spore, as well as some other upcoming EA PC titles would be using the latest version of SecuROM protection. The system required an online verification of the CD key once during install and every 10 days post-install. The news caused a great deal of panic for Spore fans, however worries can be cast aside as an e-mail from Caryl Shaw at Maxis was sent out yesterday to Spore websites: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey Spore Fans - We wanted to let you know that we've been hearing your concerns aboutthe online authentication mentioned earlier this week. I didn't want tohead into the weekend without getting back to you with some informationabout how Spore is planning on using this new system. A few things we wanted you to know: -- We authenticate your game online when you install and launch it thefirst time. -- We'll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloadsnew content or a patch for their game. -- The new system means you don't have to play with the disc in yourcomputer. And if you are like me, always losing discs, this will be a huge benefit. -- You'll still be able to install and play on multiple computers. -- You can play offline. We do hope that players will play online - sharing creatures, buildingsand vehicles with other players is something that is unique to Spore andone of the coolest features of the game. Every day, when I play theCreature Stage, I get to see wacky and awesome new creatures from myBuddies on the team coming over the hill at me and I can't wait to seewhat happens when our creative, passionate community starts sharingtheir creations. I'd love to write more - but I need to get back to work. | Website Maintenance |  |
| Planet Spore will be undergoing some maintenance in the coming weeks, as the site has new features added and is cleaned up. Visitors may notice issues particularly with the themes for the site during this time. The maintenance includes cross-browser functionality, speed increases, the Planet Spore video player, the Game Information page, as well as some changes in layouts of certain pages. A news post will be made once the maintenance work is complete, listing all the new features and changes. After this, Planet Spore will have some surprises in store to keep us Spore fans busy through the summer until September. |

| The Planet Spore Screenshot Gallery has been given a complete overhaul. It has been re-organized, a new theme applied as well as a bunch of new screenshots including content from the Spore fansite kit. The site now contains 578 Spore screenshots which is, I believe, the largest collection to be found on the internet. A while back the Spore team re-created some fan creatures. You can find their recreations in the Gallery under Artwork > Renders > Creatures, or go to the Spore screenshots page here: http://www.spore.ea.com/screenshots.php The new hierachy is as follows:

| Spore Creature Creator coming June 17th | |
| Last week IGN posted a short article regarding Spore and the upcoming Creature Creator. Some solid information was given out, including the fact that there will be two Creature Creators: a free version with 25% of the parts available and the retail version which has 100% of parts. Both versions are expected to be released mid-June, and Amazon.com has a pre-order available for the game for $9.99 on 17th June. Looks like we're less than two months away from FINALLY creating our creatures. | Three Years of Planet Spore | |
| Two days ago Planet Spore reached its third birthday, an important milestone in its development. I'd like to thank all the members, visitors and my friends who have helped it get this far. And of course thank you to EA for starting it all off. :) Also a couple of days ago an email was sent out to some of the Spore fansites from EA informing us that there is now a fansite kit available out there for all you potential fansite creators. You can find it here: http://www.spore.com/fansitekit.php The content of the fansite kit will be uploaded to Planet Spore soon. Apologies for the delay in this news. I'm going through my "World of Warcraft Phase" which some [unfortunate] gamers go through at one point in their lives and it's completely distracted me from the site for the past week or two.
